FAQ โ questions from the village
What exactly is a "kit"?
A kit is everything your community needs to run a complete scavenger hunt, delivered digitally: printable QR signs for 6 stops, team access codes, the game itself (played in a phone browser โ nothing to install), a one-page organizer guide, and printable finisher badges. You print the signs, place them in your neighborhood or venue, and your people play anytime during your event window.
Who can host one?
HOAs and neighborhoods, school PTAs, churches, scout troops and youth groups, offices, and private crews celebrating something. If your people already gather somewhere, a quest can live there.
How much work is it for the organizer, honestly?
About one hour, total: print 7 pages, place 6 signs, set out a candy bowl if you’re feeling fancy. Organizers get the honorary title Lab Assistant and remote support from Dr. Z during the event window. We call it: you bring the village, we bring the monster.
What do players need?
One phone per team with a browser and a camera for QR codes. No app installs, no accounts, no downloads. Progress saves on the device, so a team can start, break for dinner, and finish later in the window.
What ages is it for?
The pilot game, Wisp’s Lost Lanterns, is built for ages 5 to 75: little kids count and match, older kids and adults get the riddles and ciphers, and every stop has three levels of hints so nobody gets stuck or melts down. Mixed-age teams are the sweet spot.
What's the Dial? How do scare levels work?
Every game has a scare level, and you pick it: ๐ Cozy Glow (families and little kids), ๐ป Spooky (tweens and mixed groups), ๐ฆ After Dark (adults โ gothic Volusia ghost lore, atmosphere only, no gore and no jump scares), and โก Overdrive for competitive office runs. You can read the level right off Dr. Z’s face โ as the games get madder, his hair gets whiter. The face on your flyer is a promise.
When do we play? Is there a start time?
No start times and no lines. A kit runs across an event window (for Halloween 2026: Oct 30 โ Nov 1). Each family or team plays whenever suits them inside the window โ before dinner, after the parade, whenever.
What if it rains?
Then the lanterns look fantastic. Florida showers pass fast, and because the window spans days, families simply pick a dry moment. The Lab monitors the weather with every organizer and will extend a window if a real storm crashes the whole weekend.
How much does it cost?
Community tier: $199 flat for unlimited families โ or run it as a fundraiser, where families pay $15 and your community keeps $5 of every sale. Office Party tier: $349โ$499 depending on crew size and voltage. Youth Groups and Form-Your-Own events are quoted flat and fast. No per-team fees, no surprises.
How many people can play?
Community kits have no family cap โ the game is self-guided and staggered by design, so fifty families and five hundred families both work. Office events are sized when you book so the leaderboard stays spicy.
Is it safe?
Families play in their own neighborhood or venue, on routes the organizer chooses, in daylight or at dusk with flashlights and glow gear. Kids play with their adults; the game never sends anyone anywhere the organizer didn’t pick. After Dark editions are for adults and stay on public, well-known ground.
Does Dr. Z come to our event in person?
The Lab supports every event remotely โ that’s how one scientist can run a dozen neighborhoods in a weekend. The games are built to run themselves, and the Doctor is one email away throughout your window. (Reports of a tall figure with wild hair spotted near lantern stops remain unconfirmed.)
What about Christmas? Or our spring festival?
New editions roll out seasonally โ a Christmas edition is next, and Youth Groups / Form-Your-Own bookings are waitlisting now. Tell the Lab your date and we’ll skin the engine to your occasion.
When do party rentals start?
Soon โ tables, chairs, grills, cornhole, and yard games are Phase 2, right behind the games. Email zqmcomputing@gmail.com to join the rentals list and you’ll hear the moment the gear chamber opens.
How do we book?
Email zqmcomputing@gmail.com with your community or company name, your dates, and the tier you’re eyeing. The Lab replies within a day with kit details and next steps. Halloween 2026 pilot spots are limited.
